CS Insight: Kevin Howell – Life is Interesting
When you have 3 kids under age 14, life is busy. But when you combine that with your own interests in sports, music, cooking, camping, motorcycling, renovating, etc., then life becomes interesting. Kevin Howell, a Campbell-Sevey sales rep for the past 11 years, has an interesting life. KIDS and SPORTS Kevin’s nights and weekends are usually filled with activities surrounding he, and his wife Diane’s, 3 kids – Hannah (14), Ava (8) and Cameron (6). The trio is involved in baseball, softball volleyball, swimming, basketball, skating, piano and more. That’s a lot of running between fields, fitness centers, parks and courts. Recently Hannah has taken an interest in visiting historic baseball stadiums. They enjoy attending games in different cities while Kevin teaches her how to keep score, something he does at every Major League game he attends. The next stadium on Hannah’s list . . . LA Dodger Stadium. For fun, Kevin also likes to play golf. Recently he discovered Sand Valley in Nekoosa, Wisconsin that is built around a huge sand deposit. It just opened up this year and was named the “Best new course to play in 2017” by Golf Magazine. “It’s in the middle of nowhere, but the terrain and golf were a great find,” said Kevin. MUSIC and THE SUMMER OF ’88 CONCERT SERIES Kevin has spent most of his career in the steam industry and during that time he’s been involved in some big projects, including the renovation of Soldier Field and the building of U.S. Bank Stadium. Over the last few years he’s been able to attend music concerts at each of the stadiums. Kevin’s interest in music began in the 7th grade. Inspired by the bands and sounds of the mid 1980’s, he purchased his first guitar (Fender Stratocaster) and started trying to master the riffs. He still plays for fun and is constantly learning new material. This past summer he attended a Metallica concert at Soldier Field. He had worked on the renovation there from 1998 to 2003. “While I’ve been there several time for various events such as Bears games and hockey games, it was fun to be on the field for the show over 10 years later”, Kevin said. Kevin also attended the Guns and Roses and U2 concerts at US Bank stadium. He was part of Campbell-Sevey supplying products for the stadium and seeing it built. All of the concerts are part of what he comically calls his “Return to the Summer of ’88 Concert Series”. COOKING, CAMPING and MORE During high school, Kevin worked as a short-order cook at Country Kitchen. “It was a great experience that’s paid dividends,” said Kevin. “Because of that, Diane and I enjoy trying new restaurants and replicating the dishes at home.” During the time that is left over between all the activities Kevin also enjoys motorcycling, camping adventures, house renovations, home projects, picking up leaves and much more. There is always something new to discover, whether a new stadium, new golf course, new restaurant, or a new guitar riff. Combined with all the activities of 3 young kids, for Kevin, that’s what makes life interesting.
