CS Insights: High School Hockey Bet Comes Down to Black or Blue
The Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament is always exciting to watch, but this year Campbell-Sevey’s Steve Graves and Charlie Thomas made it even more interesting.
The Burnsville Blaze, Steve’s former high school team, had a great season and advanced to the state tournament, however so did Charlie’s high school team, the Wayzata Trojans. Turns out they were slated to play each other in the first round of the tournament. Time for a friendly wager.
The bet was that if Burnsville won, Charlie would have to dress in Burnsville Blaze black and gold gear. If Wayzata won, then Steve would dress up in Wayzata Trojan blue and gold for an entire day.
The game was competitive with Burnsville leading 1-0 going into the first intermission, however Wayzata answered back with 2 goals within the first 4 minutes of the second period. In the end, Wayzata ending up winning by a final score of 3-1.
Charlie wins, Steve loses. He sure looked great in Trojan blue and gold!
By the way, Wayzata went on to win the Class AA State High School Tournament by defeating Eden Prairie 5-3. Congratulations to the Burnsville and Wayzata teams for great seasons and thanks to Steve for being a great sport.
